School Counselor - WMAA

Professional School Counselor West Michigan Aviation Academy (WMAA) seeks qualified applicants for a counseling position with an emphasis on academic advising and college counseling.
This full-time position will begin with the 2014-2015 academic year.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a caseload of 250-300 students.

com ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW WMAA opened in 2010 with 80 ninth grade students and has grown to a four-year high school with anticipated enrollment of 500 in the fall of 2014.
Essential Functions:
presentations and infusion in the content areas; and career plans; Educate students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and admissions testing; selection process; Schedule visits and meet with college representatives who visit the school and facilitate meetings with representatives and our students; Write official counselor statements for seniors, as needed; Track all college applications through Naviance and generate reports to the CEO and the Board of Directors; Develop, with others on staff, the school s master schedule in PowerSchool, and schedule all students in appropriate classes; Conduct credit checks with students on an annual basis; Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding student needs; Collaborate with the school s social worker to make referrals to appropriate community agencies; Participate in and co-facilitate the intervention team process with the school social worker; Continually evaluate the effectiveness of the school s counseling program; Pursue continuous professional growth; Work collaboratively as a team member with school administration.
QUALIFICATIONS Necessary skills include:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Exemplary organizational ability and the ability to meet deadlines Strong computer skills Experience in college admissions or high school college counseling o Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills o Familiarity with the culture, goals, objectives, and mission of WMAA o Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population o Knowledge of colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, and financial CERTIFICATION Satisfactory criminal background check COMPENSATION Commensurate with education and experience TO APPLY Please apply online at www.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
